Brasil recebe “prêmio” Fóssil do Dia em Durban pelo Código Florestal

A proposta de reforma do Código Florestal brasileiro deu hoje ao Brasil, na COP 17, em Durban (África do Sul), um prêmio que nenhum país gostaria de receber: o Fóssil do Dia. A nada honrosa premiação é concedida pela ONG Climate Action Network - CAN (Rede de Ação pelo Clima) a países que emperram as negociações durante as Convenções de Mudanças Climáticas ( COPs). Mas no caso do Brasil, a premiação não está relacionada à atuação do País nas negociações em Durban e sim ao projeto de lei que altera o Código Florestal.
A Climate Action Network decidiu dar o primeiro lugar ao Brasil depois de uma afirmação do Ministério do Meio Ambiente de que a nova lei iria ajudar o Brasil a reduzir as emissões de gases de efeito estufa e a cumprir as metas de redução estabelecidas pelo país.
De acordo com a ONG, se for aprovada, a nova lei do Código Florestal que está tramitando no Congresso, será um desastre para as florestas brasileiras, para o clima, para as populações indígenas do país, para a preservação da biodiversidade e os importantes serviços ambientais que elas prestam.
